Dad attended Loughborough College of Technology in the late 1940s, where he trained to be an engineer. 

Peter enjoyed all aspects of student life. He was an honorary member of the Rugby Club – despite having no interest in the sport and being unable to play due to being short-sighted. Instead they welcomed him as part of the team for his piano playing abilities. 

He loved music and would play the piano at all their social events, being compensated with pints of beer. He was always the first to lead a sing-a-long, the life of the party. He had many other hobbies whilst at college – he was a keen photographer and very much enjoyed outdoor pursuits, such as caving and hiking.
